A Reading with Author & Captain Richard Bard

RESCHEDULED! THURSDAY JUNE 5TH: 6PM - 8PM

A word from Richard:

“Several decades as an offshore salmon fisherman, during which I ran my troller---a steel, ketch-rigged motorsailor---offshore from Oregon to Alaska, were the first inspiration for the stories in my books. Now, in recovery from the addiction to salmon fishing, I support my writing habit by delivering boats of varying kinds and sizes along coastal waters and across oceans, an occupation that has flung me as far as Yokohama, Brisbane, Martinique, and Tahiti, and which has produced a whole new set of thinly disguised misadventures to complement the fictional ones. The delivery work allows me to continue venturing out where I feel most inspired and alive, and my hope is that the tales will resonate with others who are fascinated with the ocean.”

When not at sea, Richard has worked as a freelance journalist, and as West Coast Bureau Chief for National Fisherman magazine. He has published four books: West of Spencer, a fishing novel; Red Flags in Blue Water, an account of sea voyages that went impressively south; Tsiu Blue, a memoir-ish fable of the Gulf of Alaska coast that pushes the boundaries of imagination; and a book of deep sea poems, Along the Fifty Fathom Line.
